Specialty Fibers

Fujikura provides optical fibers for a wide range of applications, including optical transceivers, image transmission, optical power transmission, optical sensing, and spectroscopic analysis, based on its long-standing expertise in developing quartz-based optical fibers. Quartz-based optical fibers are primarily made from high-purity silica. They offer low loss and operate effectively across a wide wavelength range. Additionally, some types are resistant to high temperatures, allowing for stable, long-term use. With reliable technology and high quality—such as reducing fiber diameter and improving bend radius tolerance—Fujikura’s specialty fiber lineup includes PANDA fibers, Image fibers, and Large Core fibers. We provide optical fibers for applications such as optical transceivers, image transmission, power delivery, sensing, and spectroscopy.

Polarization-Maintaining Fiber

Fujikura’s PANDA (Polarization-maintaining AND Absorption-reducing) fibers achieve excellent polarization maintenance based on precise dimensional control and a circular stress-applying sections. Based on our long-standing fiber design and manufacturing expertise, we have developed structures that offer low loss, low polarization crosstalk, and suitability for fusion splicing and optical connectors. Our product lineup supports various wavelength bands and includes options with small bend radius and heat-resistant characteristics.

Image Fiber

Fujikura’s Image fibers are optical fibers made by fusing together several thousand to tens of thousands of quartz-based optical fibers. They offer high heat resistance and excellent optical transmission characteristics, enabling for the production of long lengths. We also provide products that feature high image quality, reduced fiber diameter, and enhanced heat resistance, which are used as image transmission paths in applications such as fiberscopes.

Large Core Fiber

Fujikura’s Large Core fibers are quartz-based optical fibers with large core diameters, enabling high-density optical power transmission. They also offer excellent optical transmission over a wide wavelength range, making them suitable for semiconductor-related applications such as UV exposure equipment, high-power optical applications like laser processing and laser therapy, as well as spectroscopic analysis and optical sensing.

Specialty Single-Mode Fiber

Fujikura offers single-mode fibers that utilize "Thermally-diffused Expanded Core (TEC) Technology," where the core (mode field diameter) expands when heated during fusion splicing. In addition, we provide heat-resistant single-mode fibers coated with a high-temperature resistant acrylate. TEC fibers are suitable for coupling with silicon photonics devices, while the heat-resistant fibers are designed for harsh environments with high temperatures and pressures, such as oil wells.
